FAQS Question: How can I best get my questions answered before deciding to give piano lessons a try? Answer: Send me an e-mail or give me a call at (845) 336-2057 and I will be happy to talk things through with you.  If you get the machine leave me a message with your phone number and the best time to call you back. Question: What is the best way to try piano lessons with you to see if it is something I want to do? Answer: Schedule a first lesson at a convenient time for you and then decide if you want to go further. Question: What is a reasonable age to start my children on playing the piano? Answer: I have started a number of children at age 4, but it is necessary for the parent to be an active participant in the lessons at this age.  Many children are ready for independent lessons by age 5 or 6.  If you want to start your child learning music at an age younger than 4, other people have programs designed for this.  Most of these programs would not be in the form of a private, individual piano lesson. Question: What are your current rates for piano lessons? Answer: If you come to my home studio in Kingston (Lake Katrine near the Rhinecliff Bridge) the rates are as follows: Half Hour $25, 45 Minutes $35, Hour $45 I can come to your home if desired but the lessons will cost a bit more to cover driving time and expense. Question: How do I get to your studio? Answer: Using a GPS or computer directions, my studio address is 10 Carle Terrace, Lake Katrine, NY. From the Hudson Valley Mall or Adams Fairacre Farms:  Go north on 9W past the Quick Check gas station on your right.  After seeing the Big Bubble Laundromat on your left,  bear off to the right on Lake Road.  Once on Lake Road make the first right turn onto Carle Terrace.  My house is #10 on the right side.  It is the 3rd house on the right counting the corner house.  It is red brick and red clapboard siding.  The lower door is the piano studio. From the Rhinecliff Bridge:  Take the exit  after the bridge for route 9W north towards Saugerties.  Go past Adams Fairacre Farms on the right and then follow the above directions to my home studio. Question: Am I too old to take piano lessons? Answer: No!  (I have taught many senior adults and we have a great time). Question: What styles of piano do you teach? Answer: I can help you learn most of the commonly desired styles (classical, jazz, rock, folk, blues, vocal accompaniment, improvisation centered etc.).   If you wanted to learn a rare and specialized style that I am not well qualified to teach I would be honest and encourage you to look for another teacher. Question: Do you get upset with your students if they have not practiced or have not made much (or any) progress? Answer: No.  These are your piano lessons not mine.  My job is to keep it positive and encouraging and as much fun as possible at all times.
